Academic research
John received a PhD from the Geology Department at Leicester University in 1977 for work on ostracods in the Mediterranean. Since then John has published numerous papers on taxonomic, ecologic and stratigraphic applications of ostracods and is senior author of a seminal work on British ostracods.
John has developed an international reputation through a large number of publications on a wide range of topics including ostracod and foraminiferal taxonomy and biostratigraphy, graphic correlation, expert systems and computing applications.
He has also contributed to published articles on archaeology and countless company reports on biostratigraphy. From 2006 for a few years John held the position of Research Associate in the Oxford University Centre for the Environment while exploring the possible application of Optically Stimulated Luminescence in deep sea sediments.
